Custom Dies Support Passion, Creativity & Design for MarninSaylor

MarninSaylor’s mission is “to create uncommon toys which inspire joy & wonder, while emphasizing craftsmanship, ethical practices, & memorable experiences.” Based on the unique designs they offer, founders Thomas Marnin and Skye Saylor appear to have succeeded.

Since 2012, the Seattle-based business has offered an array of products that began with plush toys and accessories, that, as Thomas described, are “delightful and imaginative” and “inspired by donuts and other sweet confections.” Their plush toys combine an animal with a tasty breakfast treat, including donuts with cats, honey buns and bunnies and maple bars or éclairs with bears. Their business quickly grew, and these aptly named Pastry Pets now appear in multiple product collections, such as clothing, magnets, enamel pins, posters and keychains.

“Our products are lovingly handcrafted using sustainable and ethically sourced materials,” Thomas explained. “Each item is crafted with great attention to detail and designed to bring a touch of whimsy to everyday life, to bring joy to people of all ages.”

CHALLENGE

Within a year of their founding, Thomas and Skye had already been receiving a high demand for their Pastry Pet plush toys.

“As our business expanded, we needed a more efficient and consistent method of cutting fabric patterns for our plush toys,” Thomas said. “Hand-cutting these patterns was time-consuming and resulted in variations that could affect the final product.”

SOLUTION

While they were researching fabric-cutting solutions, they discovered Custom Shape Pros and noticed how our die-cutting machines and custom steel rule dies worked well for small businesses.

Thomas and Skye designed their custom dies and purchased a GrandeMark 2 from our sister company, AccuCut. Once they received these items, MarninSaylor was able to become even more successful.

“Custom dies from Custom Shape Pros significantly improved our production process,” Thomas stated. “We were able to create more consistent and accurately cut fabric patterns, resulting in a higher quality final product. Additionally, the efficiency gained through die-cutting allowed us to increase our production capacity and meet the growing demand for our unique plush toys.”

Thomas attributed MarninSaylor’s success to the custom dies they designed with Custom Shape Pros, and encouraged other small business owners to invest in their own custom die solution:

“Embrace innovation and be open to exploring new tools and techniques that can streamline your production process. Custom dies and cutting machines can save you time, improve your product quality, and ultimately, help your business grow.”
