In Apache Junction, Arizona, just east of the Phoenix metro, Cathy Coburn says she has found the solution to long-lasting curls. Her company and product Crazy Curls allows you to heat and cool your hair in heat shield pockets. The patent pending design allows you to curl your hair without ever having it directly touch a heating element. 

"Curls last because they are able to cool in that shape," said Cathy. "I've had ladies say their curls last three times longer than normal!

Challenge

Cutting out each individual pocket quickly and accurately was agonizing for Cathy and her staff. “That part of the process was taking so much time,” said Cathy.

Figuring out how to reduce the hours and hours of cut time became top of mind. “I knew if this was going to work, I had to look at different options.”

Solution

Cathy has sewn for years and was familiar with steel-rule dies. After researching who could make the die Crazy Curls needed, she placed a custom die order with Custom Shape Pros and also purchased an AccuQuilt Studio Fabric Cutter.

How has it changed her business?

“With my die, there are several pouch patterns to the board,” said Cathy. “In a few hours I can have up to 2,000 cut out ready to be sewn. My team’s production has shot up and changed the way we construct our pockets because they’re perfect every time.”
